Trinity is Still My Name! was released twice in German theatres. Back in 1971 in the original release year and then in 1982, this time with a new (more funnier) dubbing and slightly cut (1:58 instead of 2:05). Both versions have their merrit and give the same movie a completely different tone.

Two of my favourite childhood movies, so I just had to see how they were dubbed in English (these movies don’t actually have an “original” voice track):

Since this was decades before reunification sometimes these movies ended up with different titles in East and West Germany.

Whilst the English titles are almost literal translations of the original Italian, the German title for the first movie was “Die rechte und die linke Hand des Teufels” (“The Right and the Left Hand of the Devil”) whilst the second part was called “Vier Fäuste für ein Halleluja” (“Four Fists for a Hallelujah”) in West and “Der kleine und der müde Joe” (“The Little and the Sleepy Joe”) in East Germany.

Synopsis: Trinity comes into a small town where he meets his brother Bambino again. Bambino is the Sheriff there after he accidentally shot the real Sheriff (i.e. he thought the Sheriff was pursuing him, but he wasn’t). Trinity takes the role of the Deputy Sheriff and together they help a group of Mormon settlers who have trouble with a man who wants their land for his horses.

My Opinion: Except for the early movies, Bud Spencer & Terrence Hill movies are always harmless fun. They are childhood favourites of mine and have a certain cult status here in Germany. This is mostly due to a very unique dubbing of these movies but I still enjoy them very much and I own pretty much all of them.
