Hawaii Five-0

Hawaii Five-0 @ Wikipedia
Hawaii Five-0 @ IMDb
Steve McGarrett is a Navy Seal who resigns his offto work as a cop on his home island Hawaii. But just not as any cop and not just for some reason. His father was killed by the man he has been hunting for years and the HPD can’t be trusted to solve this case. His team works under direct authority from the governor and gets way more leeway to solve their cases. He’s supported by a not so ordinary team.
The cast reads intriguing: Scott Caan (Ocean’s Eleven, The Fast and the Furious), Daniel Dae Kim (LOST), Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica), Masi Oka (Heroes) and of course James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville).
The problem for me is that it is a straight-forward cop show like CSI or NCIS. There’s no special element in it. I’m sure it’s a good show that many people will enjoy but it’s just not my kind of show.
It doesn’t help at all that I’m partial towards the supposed baddie (Marsters).

TV Season 2010/2011 Diary #4
Chuck 4×01 Chuck vs. the Anniversary
Loved it how Ivan Drago described Chuck and Morgan as two awesome spies that avoid discovery by using public transportation.
I also liked the Indiana Jones/Nerd Herder way of showing the travel route. I liked pretty much everything about this episode – except for one thing: I will miss the Buy More personnel like Big Mike. I doubt they find a way to integrate them into this Buy More.
How I Met Your Mother 6×01 Big Days
We are still no step further towards the mother. And the episode itself wasn’t that funny. The only really noteworthy thing for me was that Alyson’s breasts are still larger than usual while Cobie’s are back to normal size (in comparison to their respective real-world pre-pregnancy state).
I don’t know, somehow the fun of this show is gone…
Castle 3×01 A Deadly Affair
Aww, they are back together.
I don’t mind this whole will-they-or-won’t-they because these two have a great chemistry even when she is mad at him. I also loved how he was always the first at the crime scene (even on the first one as cardboard stand-up), it was a nice running gag.
Two and a Half Men 8×01 Three Girls and a Guy Named Bud
Charlie is still the same and he still has it. The show is still very funny – mainly due to Charlie’s very own view of the world.

Hellcats 1×02 I Say a Little Prayer
Technically it’s a decent show. The characters are fairly interesting but it’s just too much centered on the cheerleading sport. And it’s just not my kind of sport. So I think I’ll drop it as soon as the big wave has come at the end of the month.
Terriers 1×02 Dog and Pony
I’m sure neither of the main characters is totally right in the head. They do crazy stuff without thinking too hard about it before and have equally distributed luck / bad luck. But I enjoy watching them doing their crazy things and I’m sure I will continue doing so.

TV Season 2010/2011 Diary #2
Melissa & Joey 1×06 Spies & Lies
From the humour side I did enjoy this episode just like I did the previous ones.
But I have a small problem with this kind of story. Meaning, an episode that tells two different, seemingly unrelated stories that are bound together by a common meta topic. In this case: having to let go of something. I don’t know if this is considered good or bad story writing but it always bothers me when I get the point that the entire episode had just one purpose.
Life Unexpected 2×01 Ocean Uncharted
*Whistles opening tune* “Bent or broken is the family tree.”
Goody, goody. So many new variables (Paige, Eric) and unknowns (Julia?). I really enjoyed this season opener though I think I have to re-watch the season finale again to get the whole picture again.

TV Season 2010/2011 Diary #1
The new season is slowly beginning and just like last year I will keep a diary of all my shows I watch on a weekly basis. I’ve already reviewed some of the newcomers, like Melissa & Joey, Hellcats, Terriers and Nikita and now the “old” shows are coming back.
Gossip Girl 4×01 Belles de Jour
I would have been more surprised if there wasn’t something fishy about Georgina’s baby. Frankly I’m stunned that the Humphrey family took her and her doctor’s word for it that it was Dan’s. I mean how could they even assume that the doctor tested it against Dan’s DNA – if he isn’t even in on the game.
And Blair blew it really nicely with her prince… Now I’m just wondering if Chuck has changed or if this is just temporary.

Nikita

Nikita @ Wikipedia
Nikita @ IMDb
Nikita is a trained spy and assassin who escaped from who escaped from her black ops division called, well Division. She was the best they ever had and she is still the best. Now they want her dead. And she wants to bring them down.
I was never that into the original movie by Luc Besson and I never watched the first series. But after Alias I thought I gave this new series a try. But it didn’t pique my interest at all; there was nothing special about it. And worse: It was not just not that interesting; I got bored while watching it. And the “twist” and the end was no twist at all. On a show like that a twist was to be expected. And the part where she was the one behind the pig mask was an non-twist for me because it was so blatantly obvious from the start.

Terriers

Terriers @ Wikipedia
Terriers @ IMDb
Hank is an ex-cop and an ex-drunk. Britt is his best friend. And together they run an unlicensed private investigations business. Their first case is to retrieve a dog from a mountain of a man, directly followed by helping a young woman who got in the crosshairs of some very powerful tycoon.
I’m not entirely sure where this show is (supposed to be) going but I liked it. It wasn’t on my radar until today but … I liked it. Donal Logue from Grounded for Life and Michael Raymond-James from True Blood make an interesting team and my guess is that the episodes will be a mixture of case of the week and the story arc involving that tycoon (because I’m pretty sure that ain’t over yet). Since they are neither real cops nor real PIs this could be an interesting change of pace.

Hellcats

Hellcats @ Wikipedia
Hellcats @ IMDb
Marti Perkins is a scholarship student at the Lancer College in Memphis. Due to budget cuts her scholarship gets cancelled and the only way for her to remain in college is to get a cheerleading scholarship. And since she used to be a gymnast, she gives it a try even though she has no love for the sport. And her arrival at the team is also met with mixed feelings.
I thought I gave it a try since I like Bring It On with Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku and Bring It On: All or Nothing with Hayden Panettiere. These movies didn’t really take themselves seriously and had a high Guilty Pleasure factor. But this series seems to be all work and no play. I’m also not really impressed with the lead character. So I think, I stay with Life Unexpected and Gossip Girl, that’s enough drama for one season.
